Predicting metabolic cost of locomotion via musculoskeletal simulation

This abstract has open access
Abstract Summary
The gross metabolic cost of walking was predicted based on dynamic simulations generated using a 3-D musculoskeletal model. While predicted costs were reasonable, the magnitude was sensitive to how closely the simulations matched the experimental data, and were also likely elevated due to simplifications in modeling of the head, arms and torso.
