A changing paradigm on outcomes following amputation

Abstract Summary
Extensive research goes into developing assistive technology that can replicate biological function after severe lower limb trauma. The assistive technology we put on a patient can be most advantageous when we also invest in what we put in a patient. Considering the needs and challenges of the end user is a critical aspect of device development and evaluation that may sometimes prompt the scientifically-minded to reconsider what they thought they knew.
