Abstract Summary
With the development of state-of-the-art experimental and computational methods, as well as increased collaborative and interdisciplinary research, the positive impacts of biomechanics research on aspects of daily living have been profound and continue to grow. Here, in addition to summarizing my contributions to biomechanics, I highlight examples of multidisciplinary biomechanics collaborations that are making significant impacts on health and society, namely: micro-gravitational effects on musculoskeletal health; impact forces, soft tissue vibrations, and skeletal muscle tuning affecting human locomotion; prescriptive physical activity in childhood to enhance skeletal growth and development to prevent osteoporotic fractures in adulthood and aging; and creative innovations in technology that have transformed the visual arts and entertainment. Complementing those examples, my interdisciplinary research has focused on: adaptations of bone to exercise, disuse, and diet; joint injury and osteoarthritis; and human movement dynamics and performance (sport & exercise).
