Image-based analysis of left-to-right symmetry of the three-dimensional morphology of the bones of the hindfoot

This abstract has open access
Abstract Summary
Personalized surgical treatment of the foot such as customize artificial bones and customized joint replacements, rely on the morphology of the bones of the contralateral side. This approach is based on the implicit assumption that there is high level of symmetry in the tarsal bones of an individual’s feet. In this study, this level of symmetry was explore by comparing the left to right morphology of hindfoot bones models obtained from CT imaging of the feet of ten healthy individuals. The comparison that was based on surface-to-surface distance mapping indicate high lev
