A comparative computational probabilistic analysis assessed influences of evolutionarily important musculoskeletal features on rotator cuff function for human and chimpanzee glenohumeral joints. Species-specific distinctions emphasized differences in primary shoulder function and provide novel context for rotator cuff pathology origins in modern humans.
