Reliability and accuracy of 2d assessment of shoulder kinematics using single plane fluoroscopy

Abstract Summary
An accurate method to analyze shoulder kinematics in a clinical setting is needed in order to optimize treatment. The purpose of this study was to determine the reliability and accuracy of kinematics derived from 2D assessment of single plane fluoroscopy images compared to kinematics from 2D/3D shape-matching. Inter-rater reliability was found to be good to excellent for all but one variable. 2D assessments consistently overestimated values compared to 2D/3D shape-matching with variable root means square errors from ranging from 8 to 35. More data is needed to determine if correction equations can be effective in improving the clinical usefulness of measures.
