A comparison of measurement techniques for resultant angular velocities in the lower limbs

Abstract Summary
To determine the feasibility of utilizing gyroscopic data to differentiate common gait perturbations, we compared the resultant angular velocities measured with optical motion capture (OMC) and Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) in the feet and shank during running. The systems were tested under 4 different gait patterns and averaged over ~ 40 gait cycles. The IMUs were able to differentiate gait parameters such as long or short strides as well as optical motion capture.
