Development of a low cost transtibial prosthesis

Abstract Summary
People with transtibial amputation, due to diabetes, vascular diseases, congenital, cancer, or trauma, are custom fitted with a prosthetic limb to regain mobility and independence. However, the cost of the prosthesis varies, depending on the design, materials used, and function of the user. The prosthetic limb, in general, needs to be replaced every 3-4 years due to wear and tear. For this project, a low cost transtibial prosthetic limb was developed using materials that are commonly available in any country. The socket of this prosthetic limb was easy to fit onto the user’s stump and was adjustable to varying size of the stump. The pylon could be lengthen to accommodate the growth of the user, especially children.
