Validation of the dartfish auto-tracking algorithm for the measurement of 2-dimensional knee angles in various movements

Abstract Summary
Motion capture systems are useful tools for assessing different aspects of human movement. 3D systems are the preferred method as they utilize multiple cameras to gather accurate and reliable measurements. They can be cost-prohibitive and complex to use. In the absence of a 3D system, a 2D system can be used. Dartfish is 2D motion capture software that utilizes an auto-tracking algorithm to track human movement. This investigation looked to validate the Dartfish Video-Analysis Software as compared to a 3D system by measuring knee angles during 3 tasks. Ten subjects were required to walk, run, and jump with markers placed on their right leg. Movements were captured by both systems simultaneously and the knee angles were analysed. The results showed that there was no significant difference between the data obtained by either of the systems. More research should be conducted to endorse these findings during different movements.
