Abstract Summary
Single Leg Cycling is capable of providing a potent training stimulus to working muscle. It has applications to in sport performance, rehabilitation, and research. Researchers have reduced biomechanical diffferences between single and double leg cycling in several ways, all requiring specialized equipment such as spring mechanisms and counterweights attached to ergometers. Single-leg emphasis cycling is a proposed alternative to these methods, using the energy of the inactive/relaxed leg to reduce biomechanical differences of the active leg from normal double leg cycling biomechanics. This method reduces or eliminates barriers such as cost and availability, and allows single-leg cycling to be applied in much broader settings such as group & team training, clinically, or in research.
