The effect of strain rate on the mechanical properties of the human liver under unconfined compression

Abstract Summary
The material properties of the intact human liver using unconfined compression with varying strain rates were measured in this study. The liver modulus was not strain rate dependent between 1%/s and 25%/s. Failure stress increased by 20% and failure strain increased by 46% when the strain rate was increased from 50%/s to 500%/s, demonstrating a dependency on strain rate at higher velocities.
