Individuals with aclr are more accurate during initial prism exposure

Abstract Summary
The findings from recent investigations have alluded to a greater reliance on visual information and processing in individuals following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) during motor tasks involving the knee. The objective of this study was to determine how manipulation of visual information affects performance in persons with ACLR. Healthy controls (CON) and ACLR individuals reached to a target with their toe while wearing prism goggles that shifted their visual field. When vision was perturbed, ACLR individuals were able to reach to the target more accurately during the first reach with prism goggles compared to CON. The results indicate this subset of ACLR individuals do not demonstrate increased reliance on the visual system and may utilize other resources, such as sensory feedback from other lower extremity structures or prior knowledge of task mechanics, to effectively perform novel tasks.
