Is there any dependence between movement during postural sways and results of limits of stability test?

Abstract Summary
Different tests are used to assess postural control. This study evaluates dependence between Center of Mass (COM) movements (in four directions: forward, backward, left and right ) during voluntary postural sways and results of Limits of Stability (LOS). Healthy women over 50 years old, who exercise sport activities regulary, took part in this research. During tests COM was measured using VICON System (Plug-In-Gait Full Body marker set). The balance was measured also on BIODEX BALANCE SYSTEM SD with LOS test (stiff platform, moderate skill level). In sagittal plane inclination of COM in forward direction were bigger then in backward, similar like LOS results but in frontal plane the results were opposite. The significant correlations were found only in right direction in LOS test with COM movements in sagittal plane. These findings indicate that LOS test and COM movement seem to assess different aspects of balance.
