Investigating conversion of joint angle data between inertial measurement unit and optical infrared passive marker-based motion capture systems

Abstract Summary
This study examines data collected using an infrared passive marker-based motion capture system and an inertial measurement unit motion capture system and assesses whether the data is comparable across systems. Sensors from both systems were placed on the subjects and data was collected simultaneously. The data was then processed to look at various joint angles and analyzed to see if the systems provided similar data. The results showed that the systems are qualitatively similar for some types of joints but are not statistically consistent across all joints. This led to the conclusion that data from the two systems cannot be used interchangeably.
