Evaluation of wearable inertial sensors for quantification of standing balance

Abstract Summary
This study presents an accuracy evaluation for kinematics and kinetics of a four-segment biomechanical model of the human body during quiet standing measured using wearable inertial sensors against those measured using motion capture and force plate. No significant differences were observed between inertial sensors and motion-capture cameras in the accuracy of estimated joint moments and centre of pressure position. Hence, inertial sensors offer a reliable alternative for assessing the dynamics of standing balance.
