Biomechanical effects of three types of foot orthoses on a posterior tibialis tendon dysfunction population

Abstract Summary
Posterior tibialis tendon dysfunction (PTTD) is the principal cause of adult acquired flatfoot. As PTTD is related to the eversion of the rear foot, it is important to know if foot orthoses can attenuate this movement during gait. Results of this study show that custom foot orthoses (FOs) reduced eversion of the rear foot when it was inserted in the footwear, and that prefabricated FOs did not. These results support the clinical effectiveness of custom FOs on PTTD population.
