Does heel strike running pattern with cushioned shoes influence muscles forces of longitudinal arch

Abstract Summary
The aim of this study was to explore the effects of rear-foot strike running with cushioning running shoes on the muscles strength of longitudinal arch. We recruited 9 rear-foot strike runners (wearing the cushioning shoes during running) and 9 non-running people to test the metatarsophalangeal joints strength for 10 seconds and the toes flexion strength. Compared with the non-running group, there was no significant difference in the absolute strength of the metatarsophalangeal joints and the toes flexion strength in rear-foot strike runners group, but the normalized strength of the metatarsophalangeal joints had a downward trend.
