Biomechanical comparison of two different ideo brace designs

This abstract has open access
Abstract Summary
The Intrepid Dynamic Exoskeletal Orthosis (IDEO) has been utilized as an alternative to amputation for patients with lower extremity trauma. Two distinct versions of the device have been built; one that has laminated rods and one modular device that has a bolted on strut. This study utilizes the unified deformable (UD) segment model to compare differences in the power, work, and efficiency of the two different designs.
