The interface designed to enhance the perceived piquancy is expected to overcome the trade-off problem between the positive and negative effects of consuming piquant substances on human health. Previous research has shown that anodal electrical stimulation of the tongue can enhance the perceived piquancy. However, a method for dynamically controlling the intensity of perceived piquancy is yet to be established. In this study, we focused on the relationship between the intensity of perceived piquancy and the amount of current generated via electrical stimulation. Psychophysical experiments were conducted to evaluate the relationship. The results demonstrate an enhancement in the intensity of the piquancy perception induced by chili peppers and wasabi through changes in the amount of current via electrical tongue stimulation.
