Estimating bone stress at the distal tibia during running using external transducers

Abstract Summary
External transducers have the potential to serve as practical surrogates for bone load estimates both in and outside the lab. This study examined the relationship between modelled tibia stress estimates during running using subject-specific tibial geometry with ground reaction force (GRF) and tibial accelerometry (ACCEL) variables. Results suggest that a combination of bone geometry, GRF and ACCEL account for 58-74% of bone stress variance during running.
