Alterations in whole-body biomechanics during failed and successful unanticipated single-leg landings

Abstract Summary
The purpose of this study was to describe neuromuscular and kinematic differences between failed and successful single-leg landings. Twenty-four healthy teen athletes completed unanticipated single-leg drop-jump landings on their dominant limb. Failed landings exhibited increased trunk and pelvis flexion as well as greater medial tilt away from the landing limb. Additionally, greater excitation amplitude of the lower-limb musculature was observed in the failed trials. Large deviations in the proximal joints were observed during the failed trails, with differences initiated during the preparatory phase.
