The roles of posture and morphology on bipedal walking patterns

Abstract Summary
Humans and chimpanzees walk quite differently, and it is unclear how posture and morphology influence the distinct gait patterns observed between species. We instructed humans to walk with various crouched postures to imitate the bipedal gait patterns of chimpanzees. While kinematics and ground reaction forces (GRF) became more similar to chimpanzees, differences remained, likely reflecting the substantial differences in pelvis and limb morphology between species.
