Applying biomechanical research to inform clinical management of musculoskeletal conditions

Abstract Summary
Mechanical loading and biomechanical factors play a key role in the onset and/or progression of musculoskeletal conditions. Biomechanical studies, including ones performed in vitro, in animal models and in humans, have provided valuable insights into the aetiopathogenesis of musculoskeletal conditions. These insights have directed biomechanically-based treatments and clinical research. Osteoporosis and knee osteoarthritis are two common musculoskeletal conditions that serve as examples from which to highlight how findings from biomechanical studies have informed and directed clinical management.
