Knee kinematics and spontaneous postural balance after reconstruction of anterior cruciate ligament

Abstract Summary
Plenty of patients with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) had a second injury of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), due sensorimotor deficits that remain after the discharge of the patient. The purpose of this study was to determine the differences in knee kinematic and postural sway of subjects with ACLR and without ACLR. Methods: 35 subjects were measured, 17 with ACLR and 18 without ACLR. Results: The velocity of postural sway in patients with ACLR was significantly higher, open and closed eyes. The jumping tasks, the knee flexion peak there was a statistically significant difference in comparison of the knee with ACLR of the injured subject versus the dominant knee of the subjects without ACLR. Conclusion: Subjects with ACLR present alterations of the subsequent spontaneous postural balance and a greater dynamic valgus, also a lower knee flexion in the reconstructed limb, this could put at risk of soft tissue injuries.
