Effects of load carriage on biomechanical variables associated with tibial stress fractures in running

Abstract Summary
Load carriage running (LCR) is a common activity for military personnel and is associated with a high incidence of tibial stress fracture (TSF). Select biomechanical variables have been linked to TSF but the effect of LCR on these variables is unknown. In this study, we observed higher loading rates and peak rearfoot eversion during running with loads ≥ 25 lb. Future studies should examine the relationship between these variables and the mechanism of TSF.
