Abstract Summary
The in vivo elongation patterns of the medial (MCL) and lateral (LCL) collateral ligaments following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) were investigated during level walking and squatting using moving video fluoroscopy and subject-specific modelling. Furthermore, a Monte Carlo analysis revealed the in vivo MCL and LCL elongation patterns are highly sensitive to the femoral attachment sites. This indicates that the implantation of the femoral component in TKA governs the post-operative ligament elongation patterns.
