Are the outside stability measures as sensitive as the inside measures?

The objective of this study was to measure the sensitivity of outside assessments compared to in-lab measures in older adults with history of falls. Participants performed indoor and outdoor walking trials. Motion capture and accelerometers were used to measure gait. Only Lyapunov Exponent (LyE) of M/L pelvis sway showed differences between the two groups. No relationships were found between the two systems. From our initial findings, accelerometer data was unable to differentiate between fallers and non-fallers during both indoor and outdoor trials.
