Abstract Summary
The impact of knee laxity following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) on post-operative knee dynamics is not fully understood, and knee kinematics and kinetics likely influence patient perceptions, clinical performance, and component wear. The purpose of this study was to characterize intra-operative knee laxity and identify any relationship to frontal plane knee excursion or peak varus moments during gait. No significant associations were identified in 25 participants two years following surgery. This differs from previous research relating intraoperative frontal plane laxity to excursion in osteoarthritic knees (Freisinger et al. 2016) Thus, further study is needed to investigate the influence of intra-operative knee stability on knee dynamics two years following surgery and to identify surgical factors that are linked to biomechanical knee function.
