Zoe Barnes, QA Engineer, Dryfta On the other hand, we denounce with righteous indignation and dislike men who are so beguiled and demoralized by the charms of pleasure of the moment, so blinded by desire, that they cannot foresee the pain and trouble that are bound to ensue; and equal blame belongs to those who fail in their duty through weakness of will, which is the same as saying through shrinking from toil and pain. These cases are perfectly simple and easy to distinguish. In a free hour, when our power of choice is untrammelled and when nothing prevents our being able to do what we like best, every pleasure is to be welcomed and every pain avoided. But in certain circumstances and owing to the claims of duty or the obligations of business it will frequently occur that pleasures have to be repudiated and annoyances accepted. The wise man therefore always holds in these matters to this principle of selection: he rejects pleasures to secure other greater pleasures, or else he endures pains to avoid worse pains. Lisa Hayden, Director, A350 Import, Import VAL In many countries, at least until relatively recently when stock ownership has democratised and isn't only for "the rich", real estate has been the go to investment. It paid more than cash and bonds at least, and seemed to only go up. Added to that, if you look at real estate returns in the last hundred or two hundred years, most of the rises have been between 1970 and 2008 in developed countries, and 1980s-present in most developing countries. Take the UK as an example. There was close to zero rises from 1900–1960, at least adjusted for inflation. Likewise, apart from London and some parts of the country, prices have actually fallen in real terms compared to the peak of 2008–2008, even if they are higher than in 2009 and 2010. Zoe Barnes, QA Engineer, Dryfta But I must explain to you how all this mistaken idea of denouncing pleasure and praising pain was born and I will give you a complete account of the system, and expound the actual teachings of the great explorer of the truth, the master-builder of human happiness. No one rejects, dislikes, or avoids pleasure itself, because it is pleasure, but because those who do not know how to pursue pleasure rationally encounter consequences that are extremely painful. Nor again is there anyone who loves or pursues or desires to obtain pain of itself, because it is pain, but because occasionally circumstances occur in which toil and pain can procure him some great pleasure. To take a trivial example, which of us ever undertakes laborious physical exercise, except to obtain some advantage from it? But who has any right to find fault with a man who chooses to enjoy a pleasure that has no annoying consequences, or one who avoids a pain that produces no resultant pleasure? 1914 translation by H. All Day Collegezaal A | The Effects of Movement Direction and Glove on Spatial Frequency Discrimination In Oriented Textures Track : Perception 2 Haptic perception is inherently active. People utilize different exploratory strategies that affect their perception. For example, people perceive small shapes more precisely when the finger explores them laterally as compared to anteroposterior, and they adjust their exploratory direction in a corresponding task to increase perceptual performance. Here, we investigated how prescribed movement direction of the finger affects texture perception and associated exploratory movements. Texture perception is based on spatial cues from static touch and temporal cues from active movement. We used stimuli that maximized the relevancy of movement-related temporal cues. The finger was moving lateral or anteroposterior to the body, but always orthogonal to the texture orientation. In addition, one group of participants explored while wearing a glove that further reduced the availability of spatial cues, another group explored without glove. Participants performed a two-interval forced choice task choosing in each trial the stimulus with higher spatial frequency. Participants applied higher force and stroked faster in anteroposterior orientation than in lateral orientation. Further, participants wearing gloves stroked the textures more slowly. Perceptual performance did not differ between conditions. We conclude that participants adapted their movement strategies to the respective exploratory constraints in ways to maintain good perception.

Aliosha Alexandrov, University Of Wisconsin Oshkosh Interacting in real environments, such as manipulating objects, involves multisensory information. However, little is known about how multisensory cue characteristics help us determine what has occurred in a scene, including whether two events were causally linked. In virtual environments, the number of sensory modalities present and levels of realism often vary. In this work, we explore what role multisensory information and physical realism play in people's causal perception. So far, haptic cues have rarely been studied in causal perception. Here, we combined visual, auditory, and haptic cues in a psychophysical study in which participants were asked to judge whether one billiard ball caused another to move. We manipulated the temporal delay between cause and effect event, and the physical realism of each cue. While temporal delays generally decreased causal judgments, the number of multisensory cues and their physical realism increased causal judgments. We highlight the implications of this work for building immersive environments. A 5-year clinical evaluation of Physical Wellness Program at Psychiatric Day Setting 01:30PM - 03:30PM

Hilda Peters, Production Manager, RASA Normally, when a massive star reaches the end of its life, its core collapses into a single black hole. But if the star was spinning very rapidly, its core might stretch into a dumbbell shape and fragment into two clumps, each forming its own black hole. A very massive star as needed here often forms out of the merger of two smaller stars.

Aliosha Alexandrov, University Of Wisconsin Oshkosh It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like). Hilda Peters, Production Manager, RASA The European languages are members of the same family. Their separate existence is a myth. For science, music, sport, etc, Europe uses the same vocabulary. The languages only differ in their grammar, their pronunciation and their most common words. Everyone realizes why a new common language would be desirable: one could refuse to pay expensive translators. To achieve this, it would be necessary to have uniform grammar, pronunciation and more common words. If several languages coalesce, the grammar of the resulting language is more simple and regular than that of the individual languages. Interstellar space 11:00AM - 01:00PM

Zoe Barnes, QA Engineer, Dryfta The probe's objectives included flybys ofJupiter,Saturn, and Saturn's largest moon,Titan. While the spacecraft's course could have been altered to include aPlutoencounter by forgoing the Titan flyby, exploration of the moon, which was known to have a substantial atmosphere, took priority.[5][6][7]Voyager 1studied the weather, magnetic fields, and rings of the two planets and was the first probe to provide detailed images of their moons. Lisa Hayden, Director, A350 Import, Import VAL Far far away, behind the word mountains, far from the countries Vokalia and Consonantia, there live the blind texts. Separated they live in Bookmarksgrove right at the coast of the Semantics, a large language ocean. A small river named Duden flows by their place and supplies it with the necessary regelialia. It is a paradisematic country, in which roasted parts of sentences fly into your mouth. Even the all-powerful Pointing has no control about the blind texts it is an almost unorthographic life One day however a small line of blind text by the name of Lorem Ipsum decided to leave for the far World of Grammar. The Big Oxmox advised her not to do so, because there were thousands of bad Commas, wild Question Marks and devious Semikoli, but the Little Blind Text didn't listen. She packed her seven versalia, put her initial into the belt and made herself on the way. When she reached the first hills of the Italic Mountains, she had a last view back on the skyline of her hometown Bookmarksgrove, the headline of Alphabet Village and the subline of her own road, the Line Lane.

Yvonne Stewart, Manager, RASA A wonderful serenity has taken possession of my entire soul, like these sweet mornings of spring which I enjoy with my whole heart. I am alone, and feel the charm of existence in this spot, which was created for the bliss of souls like mine. I am so happy, my dear friend, so absorbed in the exquisite sense of mere tranquil existence, that I neglect my talents. I should be incapable of drawing a single stroke at the present moment; and yet I feel that I never was a greater artist than now. When, while the lovely valley teems with vapour around me, and the meridian sun strikes the upper surface of the impenetrable foliage of my trees, and but a few stray gleams steal into the inner sanctuary, I throw myself down among the tall grass by the trickling stream; and, as I lie close to the earth, a thousand unknown plants are noticed by me: when I hear the buzz of the little world among the stalks, and grow familiar with the countless indescribable forms of the insects and flies, then I feel the presence of the Almighty, who formed.
