LAC Spotlight: History, Successes and Lessons

As the ICFP convenes in Latin America for the first time, this special co-hosted session will highlight five decades of progress in family planning and reproductive health (FP/RH) across the region. Representatives from 10 countries will share their experiences—celebrating achievements, reflecting on persistent challenges and gaps, and articulating their vision for the future. With Colombia as a focal point, the session will trace the history of FP/RH in LAC and draw connections to global movements, underscoring the region’s role in advancing rights-based, people-centered approaches. This dynamic exchange will reinforce the idea of “One Movement”—linking LAC’s leadership with global efforts to ensure equitable access to FP/RH for all. This session will proceed in three parts: (1) starting with an overview of FP/RH/SRHR in the region overall, (2) followed by an overview and history of Colombia in particular, and (3) finally a discussion of some of the key areas where the LAC/Colombia experience can inform FP/RH SRHR in other geographies- successes, lessons learned, etc…Highlighting equity!
